          INTRODUCTION

Welcome Families,

In 2010, the Val Verde USD special education department began researching and designing an adult vocational program, to meet the needs of students with intellectual disabilities and autism.  In 2011, the first class began instruction at Val Verde Academy.  The Bridges to Adulthood Program focuses on three main areas:  Academic & Career Readiness, Independent Living Skills, and Social & Recreational Skills. Additionally, skills such as self-advocacy, time managment, and decision making are integrated into the program.  Students receive a certificate upon completion.  We are proud to offer our program to our Val Verde families.  Please take a moment to learn more about our program and the opportunities that await!

Sincerely,
Dr. Barbara Sorter
